“Imagine a virus so dangerous that you have to be tested to know if you have it”

“Imagine a virus so dangerous/deadly that you have to be tested to know if you have it” is a saying that has been printed on many images. A photo of Rod Serling in a mock opening of the television anthology series The Twilight Zone (1959-1964) is usually shown. The meme became popular in 2020 with the outbreak of the coronavirus.

“Imagine a virus so bad you have to get tested to know if you have it” was posted on Twitter by jennifer on July 6, 2020. “Imagine a virus so dangerous you have to be tested to know if you even have it” was posted on Twitter by Rick Tarted on July 7, 2020. “Imagine a virus so deadly you have to be tested to know if you even have it. 🤔” was posted on Twitter by Mary Grace™ 🇺🇸*American* on July 8, 2020, and this tweet went viral.

Many people disagree with the logic of this meme. “Coronavirus has killed more than 1.1 million globally; Some, however, don’t get symptoms, but can still pass it on to others; that’s why testing is important—so you don’t infect loved ones. #coronavirus #COVID #COVID19” was posted on Twitter by Daisy Maxey on October 21, 2020.

“Imagine a virus so deadly that it doesn’t infect those who don’t give a shit” is a related saying.

Imagine, a virus so deadly, you have to be tested to know you have it. I wonder how they figured out everyone had the Spanish Flu without modern medicine?
Have we ever had an illness so terrible, we had to be tested to know if we had it?
People like to compare this to the Spanish Flu but….wasn’t it really obvious who had it because people were getting sick and dying?

I’ll say it slowly so you can understand @barrypopik Coronavirus has killed more than 1.1 million globally; Some, however, don’t get symptoms, but can still pass it on to others; that’s why testing is important—so you don’t infect loved ones. #coronavirus #COVID #COVID19

I record words and phrases. I do not necessarily agree with everything that I record. Maybe I agree with the statement and maybe I do not, but my personal opinion is not important. For example, I record both pro-life and pro-choice slogans.
