“It’s a child, not a choice”

“It’s a child, not a choice” (or “I’m/She’s a child, not a choice”) is a popular pro-life slogan that has been printed on many gift items, such as bumper stickers and posters. “It’s a child, not a choice” has been cited in print since at least April 1990.

30 April 1990, Pacific Stars and Stripes, pg. 3, col. 2:
“Equal Rights for Unborn Children,” many signs said. “It’s a Child, Not a Choice,” said another.

19 May 1991, Marietta (GA) Daily Journal, pg. 10B, col. 5:
“All you had to do was count the orange stickers,” she said, referring to stickers worn by anti-abortion religious conservatives that read “It’s a child, not a choice.”

14 July 1981, Wichita (KS) Eagle, “Wichitans expect to set tone,” pg. 1D:
They come alone or in groups, in cars stickered with their convictions: “It’s a child . . . not a choice.”

7 September 1991, Kansas City (MO) Star, “Abortion issue foes face off on ‘Donahue’; Television show is taped in front of 4,500 in Wichita” (AP), pg. C1:
Several audience members and phone callers used anti-abortion slogans such as ” It’s a child, not a choice,” and “abortion is murder” during the show.

“It’s a child, not a choice” is an old saying. It’s still true. Even a ten-week baby is very clearly a unique human being.
