“It’s not the government’s job to protect my health. Its job is to protect my rights”

“It’s not the government’s job to protect my health. It’s the government’s job to protect my RIGHTS. It’s my job to protect my health. When you trade liberty for safety you end up losing both” is a saying that has been printed on many images. The saying became popular during the 2020 COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, which resulted in government mandates and restrictions. “When you trade liberty for safety you end up losing both” is a famous saying of Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790).

A parody Twitter account that posed as the former White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders posted the saying in May 2020, and an article about this was posted on Lead Stories on August 10, 2020. “It’s not government’s job to protect your health. Is the solution to punish the nation or those responsible? If hospital beds are occupied due to alcohol related violence or accidents, arrest those responsible immediately, make it very public and expedite trials. Nothing like fear to instill compliance. twitter.com/SABreakingNews…

I don’t know who wrote or said the quote, but yesterday this paragraph appeared on a social media platform:

“It’s not the government’s job to protect my health. It’s the government’s job to protect my rights. It’s my job to protect my health. When you trade liberty for safety, you end up losing both.”
