JAVax (Javits Center used as a vaccination site; Javits + vax)

New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center was used in 2021 as a vaccination center against Covid. Some people called it “JAVax” or “Javax” (Javits Center + vax). “Javax” also can mean “Javits vaccination,” referring to the vaccination and not the convention center.

“What IDIOT decided to call the Javits Center ‘JAVax Manhattan, N.Y.’?” was posted on Twitter by John Smith on January 14, 2021. “they renamed javits center to become a vaccination site and the name they chose was ‘JAVax’” was posted on Twitter by talia jane on January 29, 2021. “New Yorkers who are eligible, there are Javits/Javax/Jabvits appointments available right now” was posted on Twitter by Chelsea Jupin on February 25, 2021. “Tired: Javax Wired: Jabits Center” was posted on Twitter by Rafael “Blue Checkmark” Sternbach on March 2, 2021.

“Jabits Center” is a similar nickname.

“JAVax” should not be confused with “JavaX” (from “Java,” a computer software platform).

Wikipedia: Javits Center
The Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, commonly known as the Javits Center, is a large convention center on Eleventh Avenue between 34th Street and 38th Street in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan, New York City. It was designed by architect James Ingo Freed of Pei Cobb Freed & Partners. The space frame structure was constructed from 1980 to 1986 and was named to honor Jacob Javits, the United States Senator for New York. When the Javits Center opened, it replaced the New York Coliseum at Columbus Circle as the city’s major convention facility; the Coliseum was subsequently demolished and replaced by Time Warner Center.

Wikipedia: COVID-19 pandemic

The outbreak was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern in January 2020 and a pandemic in March 2020.

What IDIOT decided to call the Javits Center “JAVax Manhattan, N.Y.”?  The NYS Covid website is total useless to book appointments for the vaccine.  https://apps2.health.ny.gov/doh2/applinks/cdmspr/2/counties?OpID=50502320 When was the last time you saw any US state abbreviated as it is on the ny .gov website?  Its NY not N.Y.

TY to the National Guard who gave me a tour of the Javits Center Vaccination Site yesterday.
Their commitment to making sure every NYer has access to a vaccine is a prime example of #NYTough.

‘It gave my trip to the City a real shot in the arm’

If you have attended a trade show in New York City — like my Taza-chocolate-founder nephew Alex or my former-freelance-partner Terril — then you’ve been to the Javits Center. It’s a super-huge convention center that was repurposed into a vast field hospital during the peak of the pandemic and is now one ginormous Pfizer booth. Well, er, vaccination center.

In honor of its new role, it’s been redubbed the “JAVax Center,” which I suppose is pretty clever, though Jacob Javits, who was kind of a male Bella Abzug, might roll around in his grave to hear it. They should have asked me; I would have offered up “Jabits Center.” After all, you go there and get what they call, rather cutely in the UK, a “jab.”

Chelsea Jupin
New Yorkers who are eligible, there are Javits/Javax/Jabvits appointments available right now.

Getting vaxxed at Javits Center? The floors are cement and the lines are long. Wear comfy shoes. #COVID19 #javax
