“Jehovah’s Witnesses don’t celebrate Halloween” (joke)

Jehovah’s Witnesses are famous for knocking on the doors of people’s homes. Jehovah’s Witnesses don’t celebrate Halloween, and many see irony in that.

“Jehovah’s Witnesses don’t celebrate Halloween. It’s probably because they don’t like strangers coming to the door annoying them” was posted on the newsgroup alt.tasteless.jokes by mervyn on October 26, 1996. “Just discovered that Jehovah’s Witnesses don’t celebrate Halloween. I guess they don’t like weirdos coming to their door and annoying them” was posted on Twitter by Ivy Picklebottom on May 18, 2010.

Wikipedia: Jehovah’s Witnesses
Jehovah’s Witnesses is a millenarian restorationist Christian denomination with nontrinitarian beliefs distinct from mainstream Christianity. The group reports a worldwide membership of 8.45 million adherents involved in evangelism and an annual Memorial attendance of around 20 million. Jehovah’s Witnesses are directed by the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses, a group of elders in Warwick, New York, which establishes all doctrines based on its interpretations of the Bible.

“I can remember one of my jokes at that first open mic. It was in October, around Halloween. I had a joke about how Jehovah’s Witnesses don’t celebrate Halloween, which is weird because that’s the one time people answer the door for you. It was such a dumb joke. It was bad comedy, but fun to tell.”
