“Just tried to buy toilet paper, but the grocery store’s supply was wiped out”

The 2019–20 coronavirus outbreak caused panic buying (and shortages) of toilet paper. Toilet paper puns were used during the crisis, but they had also been used earlier. “No toilet paper at the store tonight...shit was wiped out!!... See what I did there?” was posted on Twitter by Jack Gillette on August 6, 2014. “Wow...this store is almost “wiped” out of toilet paper....” was posted on Twitter by Ꮰᖇ on September 24, 2016.

“Went to the store. The toilet paper section was wiped out!” was posted on Twitter by BV3D: Bryan Vines on March 4, 2020. “Just tried to buy toilet paper but the grocery store’s supply was wiped out” was posted on Twitter by The Volatile Mermaid on March 12, 2020.  “Still no toilet paper at the store today… My dad said they’re wiped out” was posted on Reddit—Dadjokes on March 17, 2020.

Wikipedia: 2019-20 coronavirus outbreak
The 2019–20 coronavirus outbreak is an ongoing global outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by the SARS coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The disease was first identified in Wuhan, Hubei, China on 1 December 2019, spreading to every province-level administrative division of the country by 29 January 2020. On 30 January, the World Health Organization declared the outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern following an increase in the number of cases outside China.
