“Life is like a doughnut. You’re either in the dough or in the hole”

“Life is like a doughnut. You’re either in the dough or in the hole” is a saying that has been printed on many images. “In the dough” means in the money, and “in the hole” means out of money.

“‘Life is like a doughnut—you’re either in the dough or in the hole.’—Andy Kaufman” was printed in “Celebrity Cipher” in Daily Facts (Redland, CA) on September 21, 1982. Andy Kaufman (1949-1984), an American entertainer and performance artist, was not known for sayings like this. Authorship is uncertain.
