“List to last” (real estate adage)

“List to last” (or “you have got to list to last”) is a popular real estate adage—that is, one has to list properties to last in the real estate business. “There’s an old saying in real estate—‘you’ve got to list to last’” was cited in print in 2001. It is not known who originated the adage.

There’s an old adage in real estate—“you’ve got to list to last.” It’s as true today as ever. So when you think about what kind of property and what area you want to work in, consider it from the standpoint of getting listings.

It’s long been said in our industry that “you have to list to last.” And in the days of sub agency, where the only side of the deal that was guaranteed was the listing side, this was true. But today, with the advent of buyer agency, there is more to real estate than listings.

In real estate, there’s a saying that “you list to last.” In your early days, you’re likely to build your business by working primarily with buyers. But in time, you begin to develop your own listings, and after that you begin your climb to real estate’s pinnacle position, which is that of a listing agent.
