“Live every day like it’s Pretzel Day”

"Live every day like it’s Pretzel Day” is a saying that has been printed on many images. National Pretzel Day is April 26th.

The pretzel saying is usually associated with the American mockumentary sitcom television series The Office, the third season episode “Initiation” that originally aired on October 19, 2006. Once a year at the Scranton Business Park, a pretzel man comes around and there are free pretzels to whoever works in the building. To Stanley Hudson (played by actor Leslie David Baker), Pretzel Day is bright spot in an otherwise dreary work life.

The Office Wiki
“Initiation” is the fifth episode of the third season of The Office and the 33rd overall. It was written by B.J. Novak and directed by Randall Einhorn. It first aired on October 19, 2006.

Pretzel Day
Once a year at the Scranton Business Park, a man comes around with a small oven and some soft pretzels as well as toppings. One complimentary pretzel is given to whoever works in the building and waits in line. It is seen in the episode “Initiation”. This idea was created by Billy Merchant, the building manager of Scranton Business Park.

Stanley Hudson is especially fond of this day, mostly because it is a break from “a job for which he gets paid too little.” Stanley is also the originator of unofficially naming this day “Pretzel Day”.

Erin screamed “Pretzel Day” in the hopes of getting Stanley to wake up and get out of bed in the episode “Tallahassee”.

While National Pretzel Day is celebrated on April 26th, the specific date of the annual pretzel day celebrated by Scranton Business Park is not known, but must be between September 1st (the date of the preceding episode) and Diwali (celebrated in late October or early November). A perfect candidate date to commemorate the event would be the original air date of this episode, October 19th.

Quotes

Michael Scott: Productivity is important, but how can I be productive if I have this one little thing in my brain that I cannot get out? And that one little thing is a soft pretzel. So, I’m just gonna have my soft pretzel, I’ll get to work and I’m gonna be super-productive. Look out for me!

Stanley Hudson: I wake up every morning in a bed that’s too small, drive my daughter to a school that’s too expensive. And then I go to work to a job for which I get paid too little. But on pretzel day… well, I like pretzel day.

[Michael has made it to the front of the pretzel day line]
Michael Scott: Hi, please tell me you have a sweet pretzel left.
Pretzel Vendor: We do.
Michael Scott: Thank God.
Pretzel Vendor: And we have 18 different toppings. We have sweet glaze, cinnamon sugar, chocolate, white chocolate, fudge, M&Ms, caramel dip, mint chip, chocolate chip, marshmallows, nuts, toffee nuts, coconut, peanut butter drizzle, Oreo, sprinkles, cotton candy bits and powdered sugar.
Michael Scott: Is there any way that you could do all of them?
Pretzel Vendor: The works. You got it.
Michael Scott: All right! Thank you.
[smiles]
