Maskne (face mask + acne)

The 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic resulted in some requirements to wear face masks. Some people developed skin problems from the masks. The portmanteau word “maskne” (face mask + acne) became popular.

“Pro of being forced to wear a mask all day at work: no one can smell my coffee breath. Con: mask induced acne (or maskne)” was posted on Twitter by Lauren Cashen on March 23, 2020. “So who else has maskne (acne from wearing a mask every day)???” was posted on Twitter by brenna on March 25, 2020. “Maskne” was entered in the Urban Dictionary on April 18, 2020.
