“May is like the Thursday of summer” is a saying. Thursday is usually not part of the weekend at all, but it might be if Friday is a holiday. June is the beginning of summer, like Friday is the beginning of the weekend. July is prime summer, like Saturday is a prime day of the weekend. August signals the end of summer, like Sunday signals the end of the weekend.
