“Melon + Broccoli = Meloncholy (The saddest vegetable in existence)”

The word “melancholy” is not a food portmanteau of “melon” and broccoli,” but there are jokes.

“Melancholy.  A cross between a melon and a broccoli.  At least that’s what I told my son” was posted on Twitter by D.E.N.N.I.S. on December 29, 2010. “MELON + BROCCOLI = MELONCHOLY (THE SADDEST VEGETABLE IN EXISTENCE)” (shown in a comic illustration) was posted on Endless Origami on May 28, 2012. “What do you get when you mix a broccoli and a melon? The saddest vegetable known to man: a melonccoli” was posted on Reddit—Jokes on November 29, 2012.

“Melancauliflower”/ “Melancholiflower”/ “Meloncauliflower”/ “Meloncholiflower” (melancholy + cauliflower) are related portmanteau terms. “What do you call a sad watermelon?”/“Melancholy” is a related riddle.
