Mercedes Marxist

A “Mercedes Marxist” is someone who wants everyone to share the wealth (such as in Marxism)—everyone, that is, except himself or herself (who gets to ride a Mercedes or another expensive automobile). “Mercedes Marxist” has been cite in print since at least March 1978 and July 1978, when the term was used in the syndicated newspaper columns of conservative political commentator Pat Buchanan.

Similar terms to “Mercedes Marxist” include “Limousine Liberal” and “Learjet Liberal.”

Like the armchair quarterback and the Mercedes-Marxist, the eco-elitist is locked into an ethical bind, applying privileged standards to problems that others must solve without the benefits of hindsight, trust funds, or social leverage.

Mercedes Marxists
The Democrats are all about the working man; sympathizing with their plight, and wallowing in the common sorrows of the “little man.” Right? Meanwhile, the mean, old rich Republicans care nothing for the “working class” and therefore the Dems have to watch out for their interests. Yet at the Dem Convention, the “VIP” Democrats (that’s a contradiction in terms, by the way) are being treated to the most lavish parties, with the greatest of culinary delights.

Mercedes Marxists and Hollywood Hypocrites

As we contemplate the Academy Awards (and fewer of us do each year, it seems!), we may want to re-familiarize ourselves with just who all these people are and what they represent. They are artists and entertainers who often masquerade as world policy leaders. They are also among the most blatant hypocrites on the planet.
