“Most kids today don’t even know who St. Pancake is”

Shrove Tuesday is often celebrated by eating pancakes, and it’s called Pancake Day in the United Kingdom. There was no Saint Pancake, but there are jokes.

“Happy St. Pancake’s Day” was posted on the newsgroup uk.rec.motorcycles on February 24, 2004. “Happy St. Pancake’s Day, everyone!” was posted on Twitter by phl on February 20, 2007. “Pancake day soon, who was St. Pancake anyway?” was posted on Twitter by Angela Fraser on February 15, 2009.

“pfft kids these says probably don’t even know who st. pancake was!” was posted on Twitter by DEANO on February 21, 2012. “Most kids today don’t even know who St. Pancake is” was posted on Twitter by Auld Bryan later on February 21, 2012. “Kids today don’t even know who St Pancake was” was posted on Reddit—Britishproblems on February 12, 2013. “The youth of today don’t even know who Saint Pancake was…” was posted on Reddit—Britishproblems on February 17, 2015.

Wikipedia: Shrove Tuesday
Shrove Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday (the first day of Lent), observed in many Christian countries through participating in confession and absolution, the ritual burning of the previous year’s Holy Week palms, finalizing one’s Lenten sacrifice, as well as eating pancakes and other sweets.

Yes, it’s that time of the year when we remember St. Saviour E Pancake and all that he did, selflessly working wih the world’s tossers, lemons, and tirelessly promoting the entire pancake race.

Just think, if, 687 years ago, Saint Pancake had not defeated a cross Gila monster with some eggs and milk, we’d never celebrate his memory

Yes, it marks the day when Baby Jesus told St. Pancake that we should eat pancakes on the second Tuesday in every February forever, or else. Pretty sure that’s it.
