A “trekathon” (trek + marathon) is an extensive trek, usually up a mountain. “Trek-a-thon” has been cited in print since at least 1998. The website trekathon.com explained in 2013 that a “trekathon” is (1) 26 miles (like a marathon); (2) often a one day event; and (3) people can walk, jog or run.
A different “Trekathon” is a Star Trek marathon, consisting of extensive viewing of that television and movie franchise.

Trekathon — a simple portmanteau of trek and marathon — is the latest adventure sport in the city. “It is a competition with one’s own self. It is a challenge that tests you physically as well as mentally,” says Yogendra Patil, co-founder of Small Steps, who has organised the Trekathon Greenrun 2016.
