“Never get a bread appetizer at an Indian restaurant. It’s a naan-starter”

Naan is a leavened, oven-baked flatbread. A naan appetizer, a joke goes, is a “naan-starter” (non-starter).

No one liked my innovative appetizer at my dinner party – cut up naan bread, topped with sliced tandoori chicken and fresh coriander.
It was a naan-starter.

If you order that Indian bread for an appetizer, to me, that’s a naan starter.

Flatbreads from UK maybe a naan-starter
However, as even reheat and-eat naans by local brands find it tough to outdo vendors of fresh ones in India, the minister should be made aware that rolling them out from Bedfordshire could be a naan-starter.
