New York Fucking City (New York Fuckin’ City)

"New York Fucking City” (or “New York Fuckin’ City") has been printed on many gift items, such as T-shirts and hats. The saying can have various meanings—that New York City is “fucking amazing” or that New York City is a rough place where people like to curse.

“New York fucking City!” was cited in print in 1979. The “New York Fuckin’ City” T-shirts have been sold since at least 1996.

I went into the first t-shirt shop on the block and picked out a very suitable t-shirt for the occasion.  It was black and had huge white letters that said NEW YORK FUCKIN CITY on both sides.  How very appropriate.

Jackhammers are tearing up the street below. Hundreds of transit construction workers. Thousands of New Yorkers going about their busy lives. Buses are honking. It’s New York fucking City—as the T-shirts proclaim—top of the world, and my friend Ja,es Wilde is dying.
