No Vax. No Visit (vaccination and visitation policy)

“No vax, no visit” is a policy that has been printed on many baby announcements. Some parents decided that only people who are fully vaccinated can visit their newborn child “No vax, no visit” began in Australia in 2014-2015.

“I don’t talk to her anymore. Won’t visit as from time to time I’m immunocompromised. No vax no visit” was posted on Twitter by nico murray on January 6, 2011. This appears to be an isolated use.

“NO VAX? NO VISIT” was posted on Twitter by NRVS (Northern Rivers Vaccination Supporters) on October 1, 2014. “No Vax? No Visit” was posted on Northern Rivers Vaccination Supporters on February 12, 2015. “Light for Riley. No Vax? No Visit!” was posted on Northern Rivers Vaccination Supporters on April 11, 2015.

In 2021, the policy of “no vax, no visit” was used in the United States in relation to the Covid-19 vaccines. “My house, my rules, my freedom- to say, no vax, no visit” was posted on Twitter by Witch of Endor on April 2, 2021. “No Vax, No Visit: South Florida Doctor Won’t Treat Unvaccinated Patients in Person. Dr. Linda Marraccini is still offering an option for telemedicine, but if patients are not vaccinated against COVID-19, they can’t come to her office” was posted on NBC-6 (Miami, FL) on September 3, 2021.

Do you have a new baby in the house?

Young Riley Hughes was lost to pertussis at just 32 days old. Together, with his parents (via Light for Riley), we made this flyer in his honour.

You can email, post it with your new baby cards, or hang it on your door. To download a free copy for printing, sharing, mailing out or whatever, click here.

AUSTRALIAN parents are fighting back against the anti-vaccination movement, warning their friends and families they won’t be welcome in their homes unless they are vaccinated.

Expectant parents are sharing a photo of Riley Hughes on social media with the slogan “No Vax? No Visit!”

Riley was just four weeks old when he died from whooping cough last month and has become the face of the pro-vaccination movement.

The post says: “To protect our new baby, we ask that ALL our friends and family make sure they are up to date with their vaccinations.

“Please talk to your doctor about which vaccines you may require. Immunity wears off particularly quickly for whooping cough (pertussis), so you need regular boosters.”

Young Riley Hughes was lost to pertussis at just 32 days old.

His parents (via Light for Riley) saw our No vax? No visit! flyers and wanted to make something in his honour.

Together we made this, for new parents to share to help protect their vulnerable new babies.

14 April 2015, Cairns (Queensland) Post, “Even anti-jabbers get the point” by Wendy Tuohy, pg. 18:
Following the tragic death of four week-old Riley Hughes from whooping cough in March, concerned parents have started a “no vax-no visit” campaign on social media urging anyone visiting a home where an infant lives to make sure their vaccinations are fully up to date.

No Vax, No Visit?
1 June 2016
When a mother is vaccinated during pregnancy, the protective antibodies travel across the placenta to the baby, writes Professor Peter McIntyre.

NO VAX, NO VISIT! Our baby girl is due in four weeks. We can’t wait to meet her! If you would like to meet her, we ask that you ask your doctor for a whooping cough booster this week. Our daughter can’t receive her first vaccination until she’s six weeks old, so relies on us to keep her safe from germs. #NoVaxNoVisit

Have you seen these requests in your social media feeds recently?

No Vax, No Visit is a movement being propagated through social media and social pressure. Expectant parents are demanding that all visitors who wish to visit their newborn are recently vaccinated against whooping cough. If visitors can’t prove they’re vaccinated, they’re refused permission to visit the baby in hospital or at home until after the newborn’s two-month vaccination (which can be given at six weeks).

My house, my rules, my freedom- to say, no vax, no visit. Unless, there is a valid contraindication preventing that person from getting vaccinated. If it’s their choice not to get it, we can hang out outside, masked up.

Hear you as this has torn my brothers family apart. One son is married to a nurse and the other in AB & an anti-vax person. They won’t visit each other over this. My bro has the big C and is in the hospital as we type. No vax, no visit. Very sad.
