“Now Showing: No Close Encounters of Any Kind” (quarantine movie joke)

The 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic caused many movie houses to close and for people to quarantine and to “socially distance” themselves. The Colonial Theatre (Phoenixville, PA) closed, but put on its marque on March 18, 2020:

“NOW SHOWING: NO CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF ANY KIND.”

The pun is on the title of the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977). “No Close Encounters of Any Kind #socialdistancingmovies” was posted on Twitter by Gerard Sheehy on March 20, 2020. “No Close Encounters of Any Kind #QuarantineAFilm” was posted on Twitter by Spacecat Spliff on March 24, 2020.

Not Playing at The Colonial Theatre ...
Mar 19, 2020 Updated Mar 19, 2020
Like all entertainment venues in Pennsylvania, The Colonial Theatre on Bridge Street in Phoenixville was forced to shut its doors under orders from Gov. Tom Wolf as Pennsylvania attempts to curb the spread of the coronavirus. But that didn’t stop theater management from sharing a laugh on the marquee.
