The National Security Agency (NSA) had a June 5, 2013 news story written about its mass surveillance of citizens. Two days later, LibertyManiacs.com posted gift items printed with the NSA logo and the slogan “The NSA—The only part of the government that actually listens.”
 
The NSA objected to the use of its logo (even in an obvious parody) in August 2013.

The National Security Agency, the secretive federal department under fire for spying on U.S. citizens, is now accused of crushing the free-speech rights of a businessman clowning around about the NSA.
 
LibertyManiacs.com, a company that markets “freedom products for liberty lovers,” says the NSA is using a claim of copyright infringement to stop it from selling T-shirts and other products making fun of the Big Brother agency.
 
“Two months ago the NSA’s lawyers came after our parodies of the rogue agency and forced our host to take them down,” the company said Friday on its Facebook page.

The politically themed T-shirt company Liberty Maniacs is in hot water for its latest spoof design

Two days after the world learned the National Security Agency logs practically every American phone call, the agency had started cracking down on entrepreneurs who made fun of it.
 
That’s according to Dan McCall, founder of politically themed T-shirt company Liberty Maniacs.
 
On June 5, the Guardian posted the first of many documents, leaked by former contractor Edward Snowden, that detail NSA‘s spy practices. Two days later, McCall put up a handful of T-shirts and bumper stickers for sale on the custom goods marketplace Zazzle, which distributes most of Liberty Maniacs’ goods. Each of those items had the NSA logo, plus a common joke as a slogan: “The only part of the government that actually listens.”

File under, “Your tax dollars at work”: The NSA sent a cease-and-desist letter to Zazzle, the T-shirt site, asking it to remove a series of NSA parody T-shirts. The shirts featured the NSA’s eagle logo and the motto, “The only part of the government that actually listens.”
 
Shirtmaker Dan McCall received this message from Zazzle after he launched the shirts on the site:
 
We have been contacted by legal representatives from the National Security Agency, and at their request, have removed the product from the Zazzle Marketplace.
