NYJew (New York University or NYU nickname)

New York University (NYU) is a private university in New York City that was founded in 1831. NYU has been nicknamed “NYJew” because a large number of its students and professors are (or at least were in the mid-20th century) Jewish. “NYJew” has been cited in print since at least 1987.

NYU has also been called “Now You’re Unemployed.”

Wikipedia: New York University
New York University (NYU) is a private, nonsectarian American research university based in New York City. Founded in 1831, NYU is one of the largest private non-profit institutions of American higher education. University rankings compiled by U.S. News and World Report, Times Higher Education and the Academic Ranking of World Universities all rank NYU among the top 34 universities in the world. NYU is organized into more than 20 schools, colleges, and institutes, located in six centers throughout Manhattan and Downtown Brooklyn. NYU’s main campus is located at Greenwich Village in Lower Manhattan with institutes and centers on the Upper East Side, academic buildings and dorms down on Wall Street, and the Brooklyn campus located at MetroTech Center in Downtown Brooklyn.

And while I was attending NYU, which Stern calls NYJew, I meant any number of Italians who most of us thought were Jewish.
