“Oh, I’m glad I’m not a turkey”

“Oh, I’m glad I’m not a turkey” is a Thanksgiving song of unknown authorship and date. The melody is similar to the songs “Did You Ever See a Lassie?” and “Oh du lieber Augustin.”  “Oh, I’m Glad I’m Not a Turkey” has been cited in print since at least 1996.

The lyrics are:

Oh, I’m glad I’m not a turkey,
A turkey, a turkey.
Oh, I’m glad I’m not a turkey
On Thanksgiving Day!
They’ll stuff you and baste you.
And then they will taste you.
Oh, I’m glad I’m not a turkey
On Thanksgiving Day!

Oh, I’m glad I’m not a turkey,
A turkey, a turkey.
