One Armed Scissor (vodka and Red Bull)

“One Armed Scissor” is another name for Vodka Red Bull.  This was popularized by the song “One Armed Scissor” (2000) by the American post-hardcore band At the Drive-In.

“In some areas of Canada, it is known as a One-Armed Scissor” was printed in the article “Red Bull and Alcohol Cocktails” on the blog Mortal Journey on November 18, 2010, along with many other names for Red Bull cocktails. “One-Armed Scissor Vodka and Red Bull in Toronto” was entered in the Urban Dictionary on October 26, 2007. “One Armed Scissor A knife” was entered in the Urban Dictionary on July 13, 2008.

Wikipedia: Vodka Red Bull
The Vodka Red Bull cocktail, also known as a Heart Attack Special or a One Armed Scissor, is a caffeinated alcoholic beverage consisting of energy drink Red Bull and varying amounts of vodka. Red Bull has been used as a general mixer in alcoholic beverages in Europe since the 1980s, though not specifically with vodka. However, the drink became especially popular in North America when it began being served at San Francisco’s Legendary Butter Bar, which is attributed to being its home in North America, and one of the many places you will still receive Red Bull’s “Perfect Serve” of 2oz’s of Vodka with a full 8.4Oz can of Red Bull.

Wikipedia: One Armed Scissor
“One Armed Scissor” is a song by the American post-hardcore band At the Drive-In. It was the first single from their album Relationship of Command, and was the first At the Drive-In song to be played regularly on a number of radio stations. This is one of the most well-known At the Drive-In songs, and was their only charting single, reaching #26 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart. It is also the encore song of their 2016 reunion tour.

Background

An energy drink mixed with vodka may be known by several names. In some areas it is called an Vod-Bomb, DVR, Friday Flattener, Dirty Pompadour, “Eyeopener” or “Dagger”. On the East Coast of the United States, it is known as a “Birch” or when mixed with Peach Tree Schnapps, a “Birch Tree”. In the American Midwest it’s known as simply “Red Bull and Vodka”, “Vodka Bomb”, “V-Bull”. In Chicago, it’s known as a “Klenfield.” In South Texas and Mexico when mixed with vodka, especially of the Absolut brand, it is called Absolut Bullshit. It has also been called a “Raging Bull” in the Austin, Texas area. In some areas of Canada, it is known as a One-Armed Scissor. In other parts of the world it’s known as Cherry Bomb, Bull Blaster, U-Boot, Train Wreck, Depth Charge Bull’s Balls, Night Bandit, Crank Juice, Wavy Juice, TVR, VCR, Black Bull. Regardless of the name, the drink is a mixture of a highly caffeinated energy drink combined with vodka, whiskey, or any other alcoholic drink.

GRAHAM HARTMANN Published: July 1, 2012
Few bands can boast the innovation, importance and cult following of At the Drive-In. Housed within the band’s final album before their hiatus, ‘Relationship of Command,’ the track ‘One Armed Scissor’ is seen as one of the band’s greatest achievements.

A ‘One Armed Scissor’ refers to a mixture of Red Bull and vodka, which acts as the omniscient character who tells the tale of At the Drive-In’s hardships they encounter while on tour.
