“One of the advantages bowling has over golf is that you seldom lose a bowling ball”

“One of the advantages bowling has over golf is that you seldom lose a bowling ball” is a saying that has been printed on several images. A bowling ball is much bigger than a golf ball.

The quotation is from American professional bowler Don Carter, who was quoted in Detroit (MI) Free Press on June 28, 1973:

“‘That’s one thing bowling has over golf,’ Carter says with that flick of a grin. ‘You seldom ever lose a bowling ball.’”

Wikipedia: Don Carter (bowler)
Donald James Carter (July 29, 1926 – January 5, 2012) was a right-handed American professional bowler. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, he learned the game while working a childhood job as a pinsetter., and went on to become one of the legends of ten-pin bowling and a founding member of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) in 1958.

He was six-time bowler of the year, a 10-time All-American, and became known simply as “Mr. Bowling.” He was voted the Greatest Bowler of All-Time in a 1970 Bowling Magazine poll, and ranked #1 among 20th Century bowlers by Bowlers Journal in 1999.

28 June 1973, Detroit (MI) Free Press, “Are Tenpin Queen and Don Carter a Real Match?” by Edwin Pope (Knight Newspapers Writer),  pg. aD, cols. 3-4:
He also endorses bowling balls that move fast, on and off the sales shelves.

Of course, unlike golf, you only sell one bowling ball to a customer unless the customer is a combination psycho and demolition expert.

“That’s one thing bowling has over golf,” Carter says with that flick of a grin. “You seldom ever lose a bowling ball.”

Or Don Carter’s less serious but nonetheless devastating, “One of the things bowling has over golf is that you very seldom lose a bowling bowl.”

9 June 1975, Detroit (MI) Free Press, “Monday’s Wash” by Joe Falls, pg. 1-D, col. 1:
Quote-Unquote: Don Carter, bowling star—“One of the things bowling has over golf is that you very seldom lose a bowling bowl.”
