Paul and Paulette Revere (names for patriots)

Paul Revere (1735-1818) was the patriot in the American Revolution who made the famous “midnight ride” on the night of April 18–19, 1775, just hours before the battles of Lexington and Concord, warning citizens that “The British are coming!” Revere was married to Sarah Orne, who died in 1773; later that year, Rever married Rachel Walker. Paul Revere was never married to anyone named Paulette.

“Paul and Paulette Revere” has become a generic term (like “John and Jane Citizen”) used to represent men and women who are patriots. “Paul and Paulette Revere” became popular from 2009 with the rise of the modern “tea party.”

Hillary Clinton, a candidate for the Democratic nomination for president, said in April 2008, “I feel like Paulette Revere— the recession is coming, the recession is coming!” The term “Paul and Paulette Revere” has been cited in print since at least 2006. Conservative radio talk show host Mark Levin often mentions the “Paul and Paulette Reveres.”

Wikipedia: Paul Revere
Paul Revere (bapt. January 1, 1735 [O.S. December 21, 1734]  – May 10, 1818) was an American silversmith and a patriot in the American Revolution.

He was celebrated after his death for his role as a messenger in the battles of Lexington and Concord, and Revere’s name and his “midnight ride” are well-known in the United States as a patriotic symbol. In his lifetime, Revere was a prosperous and prominent Boston silversmith, who helped organize an intelligence and alarm system to keep watch on the British military.

Revere later served as an officer in the Penobscot Expedition, one of the most disastrous campaigns of the American Revolutionary War, a role for which he was later exonerated. After the war, he was early to recognize the potential for large-scale manufacturing of metal.

Revere’s silver work quickly gained attention in Boston; at the same time, he was befriending numerous political agitators, including most closely Dr. Joseph Warren. On August 4, 1757, Paul Revere married Sarah Orne, who bore eight children, six of whom survived. During the 1760s, Revere produced a number of political engravings and advertised as a dentist, and became increasingly involved in the actions of the Sons of Liberty. In 1770, he purchased the house in North Square which is now open to the public. One of his most famous engravings was done in the wake of the Boston Massacre in March of 1770. It is not known whether Revere was present during the Massacre, though his detailed map of the bodies, meant to be used in the trial of the British soldiers held responsible, suggests that he had first-hand knowledge. Sarah died in 1773, and on October 10 of that year Revere married Rachel Walker, with whom he would have five more surviving children.

ABC News’ Eloise Harper Reports: Senator Clinton says she feels like Paul Revere. Make that Paulette Revere.

“Senator Obama has been very timid and very unenthusiastic with doing anything with the economy,” Clinton, D-N.Y., said at a tarmac press conference in Burbank, California on Thursday, “I feel like Paulette Revere— the recession is coming, the recession is coming!”

Mark R. Levin calls these people, “Paul and Paulette Reveres.” These patriotic individuals don’t have a “Golden EIB” microphone, nor do they have millions of listeners that tune in, awaiting every word from these stalwart intellectuals; rather, they have a love of America that is as fervent, and is as passionate as the largest of talk radio heads. Two of these patriotic souls are Cory Emberson and Rick Lindstrom.

You and I must commit to not letting one more day go that we are not actively playing the “Paul or Paulette Revere role” — helping remind our friends, neighbors and co-workers of what is at stake in this country right now and how they can practice raising their voice and activating others and then having resolve at the ballot box.
