“Potato chip truck accident on the highway, expect de-Lays”

“MAJOR ACCIDENT ON I-35 A TRUCK HAULING SALTY SNACK HAS SPILLED ITS CARGO – EXPECT DE-LAYS®” was posted on Twitter by Oscar on April 23, 2014. “Potato chip truck accident on the highway, expect de-Lays” was posted on Twitter by mariana Z on June 19, 2022. These are “de-Lays” puns on Lay’s potato chips.

“A truck full of guitar pedals crashed on I-5. Expect delays” is a similar joke about different “delays.” “A truck full of Vicks VapoRub overturned. Police are saying there will be no congestion for 24hrs.” is a popular joke in this overturned truck meme.

Wikipedia: Lay’s
Lay’s is a brand of potato chips, as well as the name of the company that founded the chip brand in the United States. The brand has also sometimes been referred to as Frito-Lay because both Lay’s and Fritos are brands sold by the Frito-Lay company, which has been a wholly owned subsidiary of PepsiCo since 1965.
(...)
South Africa Lay’s are distributed by the Simba Chip company since 1998.
