“Put on your big girl panties and deal with it”

“Put on your big girl panties and deal with it!” (or “Put your big girl panties on and deal with it!”) is a jocular saying that has been printed on many posters and a popular ecard. The expression means that one (usually said of a woman) should be an adult and deal with a problem in an intelligent way.

The “big girl panties” expression has been cited in print since at least 2005 and is of unknown authorship.

She’s a tough enough manager to be called a “bulldog on details” by Rove; strong enough to raise her girls as a single mom when her first marriage ended; brave enough to admit that she dreams of being a torch singer draped over a piano; Texan enough to live by the motto (on her notepad) “Put on your big girl panties and deal with it.”
