A “ranchion” (ranch + mansion) is a ranch-style mansion. The ranch-style houses that were built post-World War II from the 1940s to the 1970s were usually one story buildings and inexpensive. A “ranchion” is a ranch with lots of acreage, and usually several buildings and a swimming pool.
 
“Ranchion” has been cited in print since at least 2005, when President George W. Bush’s Prairie Chapel Ranch, near Crawford, Texas, was dubbed with this term.

First built in the 1920s, the ranch style was extremely popular with the booming post-war middle class of the 1940s to 1970s. The style is often associated with tract housing built at this time, particularly in the western United States, which experienced a population explosion during this period, with a corresponding demand for housing. The style was exported to other nations and so is found in other countries. Their popularity waned in the late 20th century as neo-eclectic house styles, a return to using historical and traditional decoration, became popular.

being secluded on your heavily guarded “ranchion” where you are only in touch with your aides, military commanders and foreign leaders, surely must be the best way to reconnect with everyday America. What a load of horse shit!!!

She and Benjamin decided to get married at a friend’s house in Stuart, Oklahoma. Actually, I believe they called it a “ranch.” Now, I’m not too familiar with ranches, so as I drove into town at around 10:00 at night and pulled up the long driveway, expecting to see some long wooden logs with smoke coming out of the chimney, you know a real rustic “Legends of the Fall” type deal, I was surprised to see a MANSION in front of me with beautiful pillars, a fabulous blue door, and incredible view of a valley from the back yard. Ummm, heck yes for ranch/mansion (I’ll call it “ranchion”) weddings!
