“Real girls eat meat”

“Real girls eat meat” is a jocular saying that has been printed on many gift items, such as T-shirts, posters and bumper stickers. Bruce Feirstein’s book Real Men Don’t Eat Quiche  (1982) started the formation “real men/women/boys/girls (don’t) eat X.” “Real girls eat meat” has been cited in print since at least 2000. “Real girls eat meat—That’s the message ham-handedly delivered by Cool-2B-Real.com, brought to us by the Cattlemen’s Beef Board and Beef Association” was cited in print in 2003.

“Real girls eat meat” became nationally famous in June 2008 when American actress/singer Jessica Simpson wore a T-shirt with this saying while walking through the Los Angeles (CA) airport. PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) attacked the saying on its blog.

Five Reasons Only Stupid Girls Brag About Eating Meat

jessica-simpson-real-girls-eat-meat.jpgThe photo speaks for itself. OK, OK, I may have doctored it a bit to get the point across, but COME ON! As you can see, Jessica Simpson was recently caught wearing a “Real Girls Eat Meat” T-shirt. Puhleeze!

For a gal who’s best known for her less-than-stellar brains (Chicken of the Sea, anyone?) and her ability to proportionately fill out daisy dukes, I’m gonna go on record saying that if anyone had to wear a ridiculous shirt like this, I’m

it was Jessica—as people are more likely to follow the opposite of her lead ... ya know, since she’s so well respected and all (yes, that was difficult to type without tossing in a hefty LOL).

Jessica Simpson was spotted wearing a T-shirt with the slogan “Real Girls Eat Meat” printed across her chest — leading PETA to denounce the singer as a “stupid girl.”

On the PETA Files blog, the animal rights group responds to the Simpson shirt by listing the “top five reasons that only stupid girls brag about eating meat.”
