“Rowing is oarsome”

“Rowing is oarsome” (oar + awesome) is a saying that has been printed on several gift items. “Oarsome twosome” was cited in 1971 newspapers and “oarsome foursome” was cited in 1992 newspapers.

“You go girl. To be rowing is oarsome (LOL)” was posted on Twitter on November 10, 2010. The portmanteau word “oarsome” has not been trademarked.

29 March 1971, Indianapolis (IN) Star, pg. 35, col. 3 photo caption:

19 July 1992, The Orange County Register (Santa Ana, CA), “Rowing Overview: Americans make strides” (AP), pg. G40:
The best men’s events are likely to be the pairs with coxswain, in which Italian brothers Giuseppe and Carmine Abbagnale are trying for a third consecutive gold medal, and fours without, in which Australia’s “Oarsome Foursome” will attempt to continue its two-year international dominance and win the nation’s first sweep gold medal.
