Entenmann's bakery started in Brooklyn in the 1890s. It is now part of the George Weston Bakeries family.

In the late 1800s, a young teenager named William Entenmann helped sell baked goods at his father's bakery in Germany. Dreaming of success in America, William later immigrated to New York and in 1898, opened his first bakery in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, New York. He began delivering his Entenmann's cakes, breads and rolls door-to-door in a horse-drawn buggy. The family recipe proved to be a success, and the reputation for quality soon spread beyond Brooklyn. In the early 1900's William's son contracted rheumatic fever, and taking the doctor's advice, the family moved the business from Brooklyn to the country. They set up shop on Main Street in Babylon, Long Island where William, Jr. took over the shop as well as the home and delicatessen routes. It was there that he met his future wife, Martha, who was one of the pastry sales clerks. Their three sons would carry on the tradition starting with cleaning the ovens and decorating cakes.

Thanks to the growing demand for their pastries and decorated cakes, Entenmann's survived the depression, attracting prestigious families such as the Morgans and Vanderbilts. After a fatal heart attack in 1951, William, Jr.'s three sons returned home from the Korean War and met with their mother to chart a new course for Entenmann's Bakery. They recognized a trend for one-stop shopping and large supermarkets, and discontinued making breads. Instead they concentrated their efforts on pastries, and developed their first wholesale route with Food Fair, one of Long Island's first supermarkets.

They soon expanded their business to include New Jersey and Connecticut, and in 1961, on five acres in Bay Shore, the Entenmann's built what is still the largest baking facility of its kind in the United States. Since then, the business has expanded to Florida, the Midwest and West Coast.

After 100 years, Entenmann's still bakes up special treats for everyday. From the famous chocolate-dipped donut to the first line of fat-free baked goods and multigrain bars, Entenmann's still makes everyday feel like a special day.

Today, Entenmann's is part of the George Weston Bakeries family, the home of all the fresh baked brands America has loved for generations.
