“The sun and the sand and a drink in my hand”

“The sun and the sand and a drink in my hand” is a popular one-line verse that has been printed on many gift items, such as T-shirts and posters. The drinking expression was used in three songs from 1979, 1993 and 2002.

Van Halen’s song “Beautiful Girls” (1979) contains the lyrics, “I got a drink in my hand; I got my toes in the sand.” Joe Diffie’s song “Prop Me Up Beside the Jukebox (If I Die)” (1993) contains the lyrics, “Fill my boots up with sand, put a stiff drink in my hand.” Kenny Chesney’s title song of his album No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems (2002) contains the lyrics, “The sun and the sand and a drink in my hand with no bottom.”

So SEE ya. I’ll be thinking of you with a drink in my hand and my toes in the sand.

Saba or Anguilla for a day trip from St. Martins?

If you’re planning just a day trip, my vote is Anguilla.  Who are these people who are saying it’s not scenic!!  Granted the interior is scrubby, but it has the most beautiful beaches I’ve seen in the Caribbean.  Obviously you like to snorkel since you’re getting a prescription mask, go to Anguilla, take the basic trip over to Shoal Bay, walk off the beach, and snorkel, snorkel, snorkel the reef.  If you get hungry or thirsty, go see Uncle Ernie, best goat ribs and coldest beer you’ll find!  Screw that climbing mountains stuff!  I like my toes in the sand and a drink in my hand.

Now, I’m a seaside sittin’, just a smokin’ and a drinkin’;
I’m ringside, on top of the world.
I got a drink in my hand; I got my toes in the sand.
All I need is a beautiful girl.
