Slushify

The term “slushify” was popularized in television advertisements fpr the product Slushy Magic (trademarked from May 21, 2011). The product claimed that it will “slushify” your favorite drinks—that is, turn lemonade, orange juice, apple juice, fruit punch, and other drinks into a “slushy” with crushed ice.

The word “slushify” has been cited in print since at least 1995. A 2001 citation for “slushify” under the title “making frozen drinks” clearly identified the use of the term for slushy drinks.

The manufacturer of my instant-read advises to fill a glass with lots of finely crushed ice, and just enough water to slushify it.  Then adjust the nut so that the needle is on zero…

Three suggestions:
1- A cheap-o ice cream maker
2- A hand held “immersion” blender to slushify already frozen stuff

Lastly, the RIGHT blender *will* give you the slushy consistency you want. Ihave an Oster “bartender” model that can make a slushy out of marbles.

And in case you’re wondering, Red Dog begins to slushify (scientific term) at about 19-20 deg F (please forgive my imprecisement on that data point, but I was getting thirsty).

In the Wild: Slushify
Spotted at Bed Bath & Beyond: a new -ify coinage.

The product’s name is Slushy Magic – the package contains “magic cubes” (filled with saline solution or gel, possibly) and a “Slushy Magic Cup” – but the stated benefit is slushification. Can you slushify your Zenify? Why, yes, you can!

But wait, the suffixifying fun has just started! As the Slushy Magic product video says, “It’s slush-a-licious!”
