Slutgers (Rutgers University nickname)

“Slutgers” (slut + Rutgers) is an unflattering nickname for Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. “Slutgers” was posted on the newsgroup alt.fan.hanson on November 25, 2003.

“The university is sometimes derisively called ‘Slutgers’” was a deleted Wikipedia edit for its “Rutgers University” entry, but printed in the article “The Wiki Watcher” in The Chronicle of Higher Education (Washington, DC) on October 19, 2007.

Wikipedia: Rutgers University
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey (/ˈrʌtɡərz/), commonly referred to as Rutgers University, Rutgers, or RU, is a public research university in New Jersey. It is the largest institution of higher education in New Jersey.

Rutgers was originally chartered as Queen’s College on November 10, 1766. It is the eighth-oldest college in the United States and one of the nine colonial colleges chartered before the American Revolution. The college was renamed Rutgers College in 1825 in honor of Colonel Henry Rutgers. For most of its existence, Rutgers was a private liberal arts college but it evolved into a coeducational public research university after being designated “The State University of New Jersey” by the New Jersey Legislature in laws enacted in 1945 and 1956.

Rutgers has three campuses located throughout New Jersey: New Brunswick campus in New Brunswick and adjacent Piscataway, the Newark campus, and the Camden campus.

Rutgers University finished in seventh on Trojan’s Sexual Health Report Card, and has been in the top 10 twice before, in 2010 and 2007. Ironically, so-called “Slutgers” also snagged the No. 1 title on “The Top 10 Sluttiest Colleges” list on barstool.com.

Slutgers
Derogatory nickname applied to Rutgers University, especially its New Brunswick, New Jersey campus. At one time, STDs were rampant there, especially in the sorority/fraternity subcultures. Currently, this school also has a reputation for being the most rapidly growing “Sugar Baby” university, based on the number of Rutgers coeds registered at various “Sugar Baby/Sugar Daddy” websites for the purpose of “graduating debt-free.”
