“Some days you’re the pigeon, and some days you’re the statue”

“Some days you win, and some days you lose” has had many variant sayings. “Some days you’re the pigeon…some days you’re the statue…” has been cited in print since at least 1972. (Pigeons defecate on statues.)

The pigeon expression has been printed on many images.

In response, Brisch graciously expressed his appreciation to the audience and the roasters, singling out Ann Felton who chaired the dinner arrangements committee. He made many serious and provocative comments about education and, ever philosophical, he also said about life, “Some days you’re the pigeon. Other times, you’re the statue.”
