“Soup of the day implies another, possibly even seductive, soup of the night”

There is a “soup of the day” (soup du jour) served in many restaurants, but not “soup of the night” (soupe de la nuit; soupe du soir; soup du soir). “Soup of the night” has been printed on several images.

“Soup du Soir,” by food writer Molly O’Neill, was printed in the New York (NY) Times on January 29, 1995. “Yum! What’s the soup of the night, then?” was posted on the newsgroup alt.2eggs.sausage.beans.tomatoes.2toast.largetea.cheerslove on February 24, 2003. “I like that list much better than the Soupe du Jour list. Or any soupe de la nuit lists you may be compiling” was posted on Twitter by Stephanie Reinhardt on May 13, 2010. “‘Late Night Dining’ menu. Item 1: Soup du jour - shouldnt that be Soup du soir?” was posted on Twitter by Joshua McGrath on September 28, 2011.

“Too much soup de la nuit, non?” was posted on Twitter by Francesca Lily on January 4, 2012. “Soup of the Night In the dark of night on a lonely bench, a thirsty vampire consumes a bowl of blood-red tomato soup. It’s the soup of the night (soupe de la nuit)” was posted on Thingsesque on February 17, 2016. “Soupe De La Nuit / Soup of the Night” is a cartoon by Dean White that was posted on Cartoonstock on February 29, 2016.

“For every soup of the day there is an exotic yet sordid soup of the night” was posted on Twitter by rodti on February 28, 2012. “Soup of the day implies another, possibly even seductive, soup of the night” was posted on Twitter by Bewg on June 15, 2021, and the tweet went viral (over 111,000 likes).

“Soup of the Day implies that there is another dark and mysterious evening soup…SOUP OF THE NIGHT” (shown on an image) was posted on Twitter by Cosmically Liminal on August 20, 2021, and this tweet went viral (over 90,000 likes). It should be called soup of the day, in the day. And soup of the night, at night!

Soup of the Day is all well and good. But what about Soup of the Night? I think I’d much prefer that.

I see many restaurants advertising ‘soup of the day’ but never an evening restaurant offering ‘soup of the night’. Vampires get hungry too

Soup of the Night
In the dark of night on a lonely bench, a thirsty vampire consumes a bowl of blood-red tomato soup. It’s the soup of the night (soupe de la nuit).

Soup(e) du Jour can often be found on menus in restaurants. It means ‘Soup of the Day’ which made me wonder if there is similarly a soup of the night and if so, what might it look like?

People keep telling me what the soup of the day is whenever I go out to eat, but I never hear about the soup of the night. What’s up with that. Are there any diners or cafes ladling out bowls of goth soups out there.

I saw a meme that said: “Soup of the Day implies that there is another, dark and mysterious evening soup…Soup of the Night.” What is the fallacy at play here?
As far as I can tell, the existence of Soup of the Day in no way logically implies that there is a Soup of the Night. What is the fallacy at play in this assertion?
