Spox (spokesperson)

“Spox” is a popular headline shorthand for “spokesperson.” The term “spox” was used in 1996 and then frequently in 2006 in the context of Israeli government spokespersons.

In presidential election year of 2008, “spox” was used for a spokesperson of a political candidate. “Spox” is frequently pronounced like the words “fox” or “sox,” but it may also be pronounced “spokes.”

On first sight I read it as “spocks”. It was only when I got to the definition that I re-read it as “spokes”. It is a very ugly word.
