Texas Twister (drink)

“Texas Twister” can be alcoholic or non-alcoholic. One non-alocholic version includes fruit (oranges, limes, lemons, and a cherry). A “Texas Twister Punch” mixes red fruit punch with lemon-lime soda.

The alcoholic “Texas Twister” can be half Whiskey Jack and half Yukon Jack, or half Kahlua and half Bailey’s.

“What is a Texas Twister”
This is the question that we get asked the most.
Answer: A Texas Twister is a drink that is made up of fresh sliced, and freshly squeezed by hand, oranges, limes, lemons and a cherry. It is then shaken up with ice and our own “secret recipe” base, and then served in a 32 ounce cup (that’s the small size in Texas) Anyone can slice and squeeze fruit… but… the secret to the good flavor, is in the “recipe!!” We developed the recipe over 10 years ago while living in Texas. The “Texas Twister” is a specialty drink. It is a one of a kind, thirst quenching, “cool me down” hot weather drink. Besides tasting good and being very cold… it is pretty to look at… and, after drinking it, ya’ll can eat the fruit!!! We are “Ol fashioned” when it comes to a genuine drink and customer service. We’ll take good care of ya’ll… GUARANTEED!!!

Q. Is there alcohol in it?
A. No alcohol, no caffeine, and no carbonation
Q. Is it like lemonade?
A. NO!. It is NOT lemonade! It is better than lemonade!!!

The recipe I know is oranges, lemons, & limes, also cherries from the jar, just shake it all up over crushed ice.

The recipe for Texas Twister I know about looks something like this:

- 1/2 oz vodka
- 1/2 oz passion fruit liqueur
- 1/2 oz peach schnapps
- orange juice to fill
- splash cranberry

Build over ice in a tall glass or shake and strain in a short glass

There are variations that skip the passion fruit, others add cointreau, and some use grenadine rather than cranberry.

You can adopt this to a non-alcoholic version fairly easily using the fruit-juice equivalents, as these are generally fruit flavours. You may want to try adding some grapefruit juice and/or club soda to simulate the bitter/strong effect that the alcohol has on the mix?
