“The best things in life are free, but sooner or later the government will find a way to tax them”

“The best things in life are free, but sooner or later the government will find a way to tax them” is a jocular one-line saying about taxes that has been printed on many images. “If the best things in life are free, it’s because we haven’t figured out a way to tax them” was printed in a 1972 newspaper. “The good news is that the best things in life are free. The bad news is that the government is trying to figure out a way to tax them too” was printed in a 1986 newspaper.

“The best things in life are free, but sooner or later the government will find a way to tax them” was posted on the newsgroup rec.humor on April 5, 1996.
