George W. Bush accepted the Republican nomination for president in September 2004 in New York City, stating: “Some folks look at me and see a certain swagger, which in Texas is called ‘walking.’”
 
Texans have long been known to have a certain swagger, but this line has remained memorable.

NEW YORK (CNN)—President Bush addressed the Republican Party faithful on their convention’s final night. This is a transcript of his remarks.
 
Mr. Chairman, delegates, fellow citizens, I’m honored by your support, and I accept your nomination for president of the United States.

And tonight, my fellow Americans, I ask you to stand with me.
 
In the last four years—in the last four years, you and I have come to know each other. Even when we don’t agree, at least you know what I believe and where I stand.
 
You may have noticed I have a few flaws, too. People sometimes have to correct my English.
 
I knew I had a problem when Arnold Schwarzenegger started doing it.
 
Some folks look at me and see a certain swagger, which in Texas is called “walking.”
 
Now and then I come across as a little too blunt, and for that we can all thank the white-haired lady sitting right up there. (Gesture to Barbara Bush his mother—ed.)
 
One thing I have learned about the presidency is that whatever shortcomings you have, people are going to notice them; and whatever strengths you have, you’re going to need them.

The speech was good. Some very poignant moments. Put together with Miller’s, Cheney’s and Arnold’s, the republicans’ message came through powerfully. George even seemed choked up himself for a moment when talking about US soldiers and their families.
 
My favorite line (delivered with perfect Bush smug): “Some folks look at me and see a certain swagger, which in Texas is called “walking.””
