“The kids asked what was for dinner and I told them ‘Scraps‘“

The 2019–20 coronavirus outbreak caused some food shortages. This joke was posted on Reddit—Jokes on May 21, 2020:

“The kids asked what was for dinner and I told them ‘Scraps’. They started crying. Spoiled brats, it’s really hard to get food at the moment thanks to the panic buying. And it was a stupid name for a dog anyway.”

“I made chili con carne from Scratch. I’ll miss Scratch. He was a good dog” and “I cried when my dad chopped Onions. Onions was a good dog” and “My kids threw up when I told them I’d put Ginger in the curry. They really loved that cat” are similar jokes on pet names.

Wikipedia: 2019-20 coronavirus outbreak

On 30 January, the World Health Organization declared the outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern following an increase in the number of cases outside China.

The kids asked what was for dinner and I told them we were having Scraps. They started crying. I’m doing the best I can with these empty grocery stores.
It was a stupid name for a dog, anyway.

@janedouglas Here’s a self-isolation joke for you on this lovely weekend.
The kids asked what was for dinner and I told them, ‘scraps’. They started crying, the spoiled brats. It’s tough to get food thanks to the panic buying. Plus it was a stupid name for a dog anyway.
