“The light at the end of the tunnel has been turned off due to budget cuts”

“The light at the end of the tunnel has been turned off due to budget cuts” is a jocular reminder of a grim government fiscal situation that has been printed on many images. “The light at the end of the tunnel has been turned off” was printed in the New York (NY) Times on December 21, 1991. “Due to current economic conditions, the light at the end of the tunnel has been turned off” was posted on the newsgroup rec.humor on January 23, 1992.

“Attention: Due to budget cuts, the light at the end of the tunnel has been turned off until further notice. Thank you for your cooperation” was posted on the newsgroup rec.humor on September 22, 1992.
