“The restaurant advertised ‘Chicken Dinner $1.” I paid $1 and they gave me a bowl of corn”

“The restaurant advertised ‘Chicken Dinner $1.” I paid $1 and they gave me a bowl of corn” is a joke of unknown authorship. The joke is that the “chicken dinner” is for a chicken, not of a chicken.

“The restaurant had Chicken Dinners for £1. Bargain. I paid the £1 and they gave me a bowl of corn” was posted on Twitter by Terry P on May 11, 2012. “I saw a restaurant the other day advertising chicken dinner for 50cents. I went in, ordered, and was served a bowl of corn” was posted on Twitter by HER on February 9, 2013. “I saw this sign in a restaurant window ‘CHICKEN DINNERS £1’ went in, paid £1, and they gave me a bowl of corn” was posted on Twitter by Bob Kostic (and others) on December 19, 2021.
