“The Starbucks barista was wearing a face mask. It was a coughy filter”

A coffee filter shouldn’t be confused with a “coughy filter,” but there are jokes. “In an emergency flu masks can be used as coughy filters” was posted on Twitter by Simon McArthur on April 18, 2013. “Who called them ’surgical masks’ instead of ’coughy filters’?” was posted on Twitter by Sebas on May 1, 2017.

”’Why are you wearing a surgical mask?’ I asked the barista. She said, ’It’s not a mask. It’s a coughy filter’” was posted on Reddit—Dadjokes on February 25, 2020.

Sugar Land inventor’s idea catches what comes out of coughs
By Craig Hlavaty on August 30, 2013 at 3:43 PM
A TV weatherman and reporter around Texas for 20 years in his previous life, Sugar Land’s John Delatorre is now an inventor who thinks he’s stumbled upon one of the greatest ideas of his inventing career. And one that he thinks will save lives.

The Coughy Cup resembles a standard to-go coffee cup, one found in most every coffee shop, but instead of sipping your (insert ridiculous coffee order here), Delatorre’s cup is designed to be coughed into, thus making it a coughing cup.
(...)
The cups use filters that “catch” the cough, with the filters being able to be changed once they are all “coughed out” as it were, or once per day. Yes, these are called Coughy Filters most obviously.
