“This might be wine” (written on a mug or container) is a jocular saying that has been printed on many images.

“This Might Be Wine” Coffee Mug
Before I was sober a guy I went on a few dates with gave me a coffee mug that said “this might be wine” as a little Christmas gift along with some other stuff. It was meant as a silly, cutesy gift, but it hit me disturbingly close to home. I’ve definitely used coffee mugs to disguise what I was drinking. I’d guess it is a fairly common practice with problem drinkers. The guy had no idea that I’d gone between being on and off the wagon for several years, so I don’t blame him at all. I do find it very odd that some company decided to sell it though. Maybe whoever came up with it didn’t struggle with addiction? Or maybe it’s a sign of how drinking culture it so normalized and accepted? Either way it kind of blows my mind to make a casual joke about a potential sign of addiction.
