T.J. Smaxx (T.J. Maxx nickname)

T.J. Maxx is a retailer with over 900 stores, founded in 1976 in Framingham, Massachusetts. The T.J. Maxx nickname “T.J. Smaxx” has been cited in print since at least 1993, but has been used mostly since 2009.

A shopper at T.J. Maxx has been nicknamed a “Maxxinista” (T.J. Maxx + fashionista).

Wikipedia: T.J. Maxx
T.J. Maxx, sometimes referred to as TJ’s or the Maxx, is an American department stores chain owned by TJX Companies. With more than 900 stores T.J. Maxx is a major clothes retailer in the United States, whilst also operating stores in a number of other countries.

History
In 1976, T.J. Maxx was founded in Framingham, MA, as a nameplate of the Zayre discount department store chain. When Zayre sold their own nameplate to Ames, a rival discount department store, Zayre was renamed as “TJX Companies, Incorporated”

Corkscrews, rotary telephones (good one!), and most cash registers when I was working at T. J. Maxx, referred to not so affectionately as T. J. Smaxx by the inmates . . . umm, employees.

I’m thinking that I may live close to Sister since I live in the same area that was 432 feet below water here in Nashville last May. If so, I have to agree with you that our T.J. Smaxx is one of the best around.
