“To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow”

“To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow” is an inspirational saying that has been printed on many images. “‘When you plant a garden, you have to believe in tomorrow,’ said (Paige—ed.) Friedman, a gardener at her home in Spring Lake” was printed in the Lansing (MI) State Journal on August 8. 1995. “Colorful T-shirts or sweatshirts sporting pithy garden sayings—‘To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow’ or ‘Bloom Where You’re Planted’—are gifts no gardener will refuse” was printed in The Courier (Waterloo, IA) on December 8, 1996.

Authorship of the saying is unknown. “*To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow* Audrey Hepburn” was posted on Twitter by Joanne Madeline Moore on February 20, 2010. There is no evidence that British actress and humanitarian Audrey Hepburn (1929-1993) ever said it, but Hepburn is frequently credited.

Recognised as a film and fashion icon, Hepburn was active during Hollywood’s Golden Age. She was ranked by the American Film Institute as the third-greatest female screen legend in Golden Age Hollywood, and was inducted into the International Best Dressed List Hall of Fame.

Pg. IX:
I recently heard someone say “to plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.” I think the same can be said about animals - “To raise a heifer (or pig, sheep, goat) is to believe in tomorrow!” Indeed, to see a well-planned project bear fruit for many people is to renew our spirits and give us hope.
