TOOTBLAN (Thrown Out On The Basepaths Like A Nincompoop)

TOOTBLAN (Thrown Out On The Basepaths Like A Nincompoop) was coined on May 7, 2008, by Tony Jewell on his Chicago Cubs baseball blog, Wrigleyville23. Jewell was describing the poor baserunning of Cubs second baseman Ryan Theriot.

“TOOTBLAN” became so popular that a blog, TOOTBLAN Tracker, began in 2013 to record poor baserunning throughout major league baseball.

One of the best reasons to start a Cubs blog can be summed up in a single word: TOOTBLAN. Well, that’s not exactly a word—it’s an acronym that stands for Thrown Out On The Bases Like A Nincompoop, and it was invented in a May 7, 2008, post published by Tony Jewell on his Cubs blog, Wrigleyville23.

TOOTBLAN: Thrown Out On The Basepaths Like A Nincompoop, the phrase was originally coined for Ryan Theriot of the Cubs by a Cubs blogger. It most fits for Willie Bloomquist, but really fits any stupid baserunning.
