Total Sexual Assault (Transportation Security Administration or TSA nickname)

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) began in 2001 under the U.S. Department of Transportation; in 2003, TSA was moved to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. New airport scanners and full-body pat-downs were administered in November 2010. Many air travelers objected to the revealing scanners and the aggressive pat-downs.

The nickname “Total Sexual Assault” for “TSA” has been used since at least November 14, 2010. The pat-downs at airline gates have frequently been nicknamed as “gate rape.”

Other TSA nicknames include “Thousands Standing Around” (since at least November 15, 2002), “Too Stupid for Arby’s” (since at least April 20, 2005), “Totally Stupid Agency/Assholes” (since at least February 3, 2006), “Tough Shit, America” (since at least March 20, 2006), “Tray Stackers Association” (since at least April 4, 2006) and “Thugs and Sexual Abusers/Assailants/Assaulters” (since at least November 23, 2010).

The TSA was created as part of the Aviation and Transportation Security Act passed by the U.S. Congress, and signed into law by President George W. Bush on November 19, 2001. Originally organized in the U.S. Department of Transportation, the TSA was moved to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 25, 2003.

November 2010 new screening procedures
Beginning in November 2010, TSA’s new screening procedures included a full-body pat-down, performed by administration officials of the passenger’s own gender. Critics charged that the new procedure was excessively invasive, as the pat-down touched genital areas. Multiple reports were registered that adults and children had been through the revised screening procedure after choosing to opt out of the new scanning machines that expose bodies on-screen to a TSA officer.

Delta: You have some explaining to do
Logan Hertz submitted the following on Delta’s website:

I was planning to fly from Atlanta (ATL) to Dulles (IAD) to visit my family for Thanksgiving; however, since both Dulles and Atlanta airports now have porno-scanners installed, I will be making the 10-hour drive instead.  Why is Delta allowing TSA (Total Sexual Assault) agents to strip-search, violate, humiliate, and sexually assault its passengers?
