“Treason is the reason for the season” is an Independence Day saying that has been printed on many images. The rhymed saying is related to a popular Christmas saying, “Jesus is the reason for the season.”
   
The saying has been used for various treasons. “Benedict Arnold’s b-day: Treason is the reason for the season” was posted on the newsgroup alt.fan.kate-winslet on June 19, 1999. “Regarding the upcoming Civil War commemorations: ‘Treason is the reason for the season’” was posted on Twitter by Moose on December 27, 2010. “This Guy Fawkes, remember that treason is the reason for the season” was posted on Twitter by Ivor Tossell on November 5, 2012. “Demonstrators in Detroit marched several blocks, carrying signs that said ‘Impeach Trump now’ and ‘Treason is the reason for the season’” was printed in the Detroit (MI) News on December 17, 2019.
